Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

A quick little diddy I drew for digital imaging class. The assignment was to draw any thing we’d like in grey scale using a tablet. I got swamped with a different assignemt that’s due very soon and had to do this very quickly before class. I decided drawing some thing from scratch in the time frame i had would take too long so I did what any good artist would, I stole. I didn’t actually steal this as all the line work, design, and shading was still done by myself, but I traced over a pre-existing image. Though it’s not totally original, I was rather pleased by how it turned out since it really was my first real attempt to draw any thing with a tablet.

Below is the original image I used to trace. You can tell which one is mine, cause the original one is better :P

Dragon Ball Z Abridged

This is my new muse, I am completely addicted. Created in 2008, Dragon Ball Z Abridged has been a  popular YouTube series that is a direct parody of the Dragon Ball Z anime. Created by Lanipator , It was made for the web site “Teamfourstar.com“. They parody the entire series taking out the filler and use their own voices and script to translate. Though the script is changed drastically for comedic effect, the story arch and events line up exactly as the original series. The best way I can describe it is, if 4chan or Reddit were to rewrite Dragon ball, Abridge would be it’s out come. Ridiculous in it’s content, but some how true to the source material.

The colorful world of black and white

Just want to show off 2 more illustrations I’ve done for school. One on old school paper and ink, and the other in Illustrator. For those who may scour this blog for other art/geek related topics that’s not just my own stuff I apologize for the self centered few postings. I’ll have some other interesting shiznits posted other than my own stuff soon. For now, enjoy these 2 illustrations!

A collection of a semi-educated mind, or how I sucked it up, and didn’t sleep.

Back at’er, as the locals of my home would say. This is quarter two of my graphic design course, and already, the banner I made for this blog before school is making me hate myself. Ah yes, the awakening of a mind, learning new ways to pick things apart needlessly.

So to the point, here’s a bunch of stuff I did during school so far.

This is illustrator assignment 2. We had to create a logo and incorporate it into a scene of our choosing. This took a lot longer than originally anticipated.

This was for design class. We had to make a cardboard spaceship. I chose to do the Sith Destroyer from Star Wars. pew pew pew.

Also for design class. We had to make a short photo animistic, and we did it on a group member named Mikey’s painting process. I drew this as a logo for the intro.

This was just drawn for fun. Can you guess what bone in your body this is? Hint* It’s not the femur.

Another one just for fun.

This was my first Illustrator project. We had to draw some thing with simple geometric shapes, and we were only allowed to manipulate points. Na Na Na Na Na Na Na….ect.

This was a Concept Development project. We had to make a poster describing our selves in some way. This project took too long, and too much energy. I did not enjoy this one :(

Digital Imaging 2. We had to create a CD cover for a band of our chsosing. I really like the Gorillaz and thought it would be interesting to work with their art style. I was unconfident with photoshop at the time of this project, and had missed a class. I asked my friend Steve, a great artist and graphic designer, to help me catch up. While he was there we did this project together as a kind of quick tutorial.

This is Digital Imaging 2′ assignment 2. we had to create an ad from a select era. I was once a huge TF2 player, bus since have waned in the game. I am still a huge fan of the art style of the game. I chose to do my ad from the 40s-50s era, and drew lots of inspiration from TF2’s mock poster advertisements since the game takes place in that era.

Alex Mugford

Alex Mugford has been a close friend of mine since our age were still in the single digits. Though we had our bouts, he remain one of my best friend for over a decade (approaching 2 decades now). One thing that has always been a strong bond between  us has been media. Even when I first met the bugger, we started to hang out because he had donkey kong on the Super Nintendo, which I loved, but I had a Sega. As we grew older we both discovered that we’re creative people who love media and popular culture. I took to the pencil and released my creativity on paper, Alex took to a camera and dove into his passion for film. You’ve probably seen what my self discovering has produced, as I’ve posted it on this web site a few times, but today I wish to highlight some of the great work Alex has produced during this time.

This was a short Alex did with a bunch of my friends involved. Matt Hender leading the sound track, and Jerm Stewart taking on a major role as the store clerk and narrator, along with a plethora of other close friends being involved. It got featured in a few festivals and gained some local attention as it made it’s way on province wide radio. It was around remembrance day that this was released which gave the local media plenty of excuses to feature this very clever short about poppies.

Sailor’s Ode, a music video for Amy G Dala
The video above is just the trailer, you can watch the full video on Vimo here: http://vimeo.com/4006172. Sailor’s Ode was shot for a close friend’s band when they released their first single and album. Amy G Dala is a local band comprised entirely of friends of mine, Brian Conway, Colin Burke, Sam Murphy, and Travis Hopkins, and considers themselves as a progressive rock band. You can check out more of their music here: http://www.myspace.com/amygdalaonline. They’re currently on hiatus, but they regularly get together during holidays doing reunion shows. This video is one of my favorites Alex has done, I love the high concept of a gangster story with music to match. The actors who aren’t really actors did a wonderful job playing their parts, it’s a good thing most of them watch Sopranos.

And there we have it! A young ambitious artist at work. Keep an eye out for his future projects, Alex is currently working on a music video for The Long Distance Runners, an ECMA nominee, Music NL winning band featuring one of my very close friend, Matt Hender. He also has another fairly large project called “Hollywood Rain” in post production at the moment. If you’d like to learn more about this fine gentleman, check out his website at  www.alexmugford.com.

A friend, a meme, and the internet.

Ever have that friend in the circle that is simply liked by all? A friend that’s so charismatic, charming, and friendly, that even if said friend rapes your pets, you would still call him one of your best. Our friend circle is lucky enough to be graced with a presence that is exactly that, personified in real life.

What can you do for said person to show the groups appreciation? Illustrate a hilarious image of him, then make it an internet meme sensation ofcourse!

The said person, let’s call him JH, was recently illustrated by my very talented friend Mike Hudson. It started out as a simple drawing which inspired a new breed of internet memes. Some one coined up the name “The second most interesting man in the world”. Though unofficial, seems suiting. I don’t know if this will actually become a new internet meme sensation, but it did bring a lot of laughs on our facebook feed for the day.

More memes and the original image after the break.
